What Marvel/Disney is doing to Ghost Rider creator Gary Friedrich is truly deplorable. Last year, Gary Friedrich sued Marvel for rights on his creation Ghost Rider. Marvel countersued for $17,000 for revenue gained by Gary at conventions selling sketches and also an action to stop him from himself as the creator of Ghost Rider for financial gai. He is, however, allowed to sign Marvel Licensed Ghost Rider Products.
This affects us all, especially those of us who are convention fans. Imagine our favorite artists not being able to sketch for us our favorite character, for fear of being sued by Marvel/Disney. Imagine all the amateur Artists on Artist Alley not being able to sketch anything. This sets a legal precedent that can affect Comic Cons as we know it.
For myself, I am not buying nor supporting any Marvel or Disney Product. Comic Creators are the important element in "our" industry and it is their work that makes reading and collecting comics pleasurable and fun. Marvel is stiffling this creative process. Just read other comic creators' post on Facebook today. Today is a sad day.
