Spot Light on Create a Character Contest

This year, Albuquerque Comic Con is having a contest called the Create a Character Contest.

The 2012 Albuquerque Comic Con Create a Hero Contest

Rules:


Create a character that is based on one or all of these time periods:

1) Medieval – which can include Medieval England, Medieval Spain, Pre-Columbian America, Feudal Japan and Medieval China;
2) The Golden Age/WWII era, and
3) The Modern Age
Character designs must include a brief background history of the character, how they got their powers, how they became a hero/villain, etc
Character designs must also include a sketch or description of the character

In person January 13, 2012 5 pm

Comic Con Guests and attendees will vote on submissions by donating money to the charity sponsored by Albuquerque Comic Con on Saturday and Sunday (January 14 and 15)

The Charity is Hero Initiative, a non-profit organization that helps comic veterans in need.

First Prize Two Full Event passes for Albuquerque Comic Con 2013 and Two Full Event passes for Albuquerque Sci Fi Expo and your character will star in a solo comic story to be published online and in print.

The Dark Terror

January 1938: Tom Randell ,a police scientist working for the Town City police department was assisting the police in solving the murder of a high-ranking politician, when suddenly, he was shot by a gunman in the employ of a local crime boss responsible for the murder.


Randell was taken to a nearby hospital, where he soon recovered, thanks to a serum which gave him enhanced strength, stamina, and agility.


After being trained in the use of his powers, Randell assumed the costumed identity of the dark terror, and succeeded in bringing the crime boss to justice.


The Dark Terror continues to operate in Town City








Aceblade


Aceblade is a vigilante who has realized "the law" is not always what is right. He is a student of many martial arts and master of many weapons. He has devoted his existence to helping those who have been taken advantage of, and protecting those who need it. Aceblade does not have any “powers” besides his immeasurable will and resilience. There’s nothing that he can’t do, no one he can’t beat, and nowhere he can’t go if he only apply himself.






Marston, the defender of England




Willa Marston is a female warrior from the Vale (Forest) of Marston in England who defends the poor and the weak from tyranny, especially women and children. Orphaned and abused as a child, she ran away to the forest that bears her name. Ēostre, the great Mother Goddess of the Saxons appeared to her and gave her the sword and seal of Marston to defend the women and young from male tyranny. She has collected a band of women and children, both male and female, in the Vale where they live the precepts of the Mother Goddess. Her mission is one of peace, but she is ready to defend her cause at all costs.

She has normal strength, but superb fighting skills. The Sword and Shield of Marston are imbued with mystical properties by the Mother Goddess Ēostre. The Sword is only to be used for defensive purposes. The Sword itself has healing and regenerative properties. If it touches a sick soul or body in love, it will heal them. If the Sword is thrust into the ground, barren soil will be made fertile. The Shield will protect the bearer, Marston, from the power of Greek fire to a nuclear blast. It gives her the protection of the Earth itself.


The Vale of Marston also does not exist in place and in time, but outside in a different plane, perhaps that of Avalon. It can exist anywhere and anytime, which can allow Marston to visit different times in England’s history to protect her native land.





Chimaera



Real Name: Professor Maera Chilson (Chimaera), daughter of Lucas Chilson.
Modern Age Villain
Girly girl mad scientist who tries to genetically splice fairy tale creatures from regular animals, who rides around on a pink unicorn that is her first successful experiment. Her "morality pet." Her love, the friend she's been waiting her whole life for.
Theme park, investigation… villainy.
Her father was the great "Doctor Trilobyte" who would clone all sorts of extinct animals. He was too busy with his villainy to meet his daughter's emotional needs especially her request for a unicorn which he dismissed as ridiculous because they never existed.

When the parted ways and she became her own scientist, it was assumed that she was far removed from her father's villainy and has devoted her life to giving children the love she never had with her theme park.

Her theme park funds her research.
An investigation would reveal the twisted core of it all:


Piles and piles of failed, horrible attempts. Dead shrunken humans, enlarged insects, cloned shriveled babies, animal corpses with half grown parts of other animals growing off of them.... It would make a sane person vomit. At her core, she’s a sweet little girl who wants to bring her fantasies to life, but she’s completely amoral about doing so.


She wears a pink lab coat with yellow flowers printed on it. (Think: Bat Lash) A pink bow and yellow boots.

ORIGIN: When 13 year old Allan and older brother by 2 years Eduardo were exploring a cave close to their parents village, they discovered an antechamber that had Black Diamonds embedded in the rock surface. Eduardo started to pick at them, hoping to become rich from the sales. It caused an energy reaction that led to an explosion. Both boys survived. Allan had a Black Diamond merged into his forehead, and Eduardo had 2 diamonds merged into his chest.
After years of practice, they grew to master their powers.
Allan became a hero, DIAMOND. Eduardo became a villain HARD ROCK.

“An Origin Story”


Have you ever wondered what happens when a comic book breaks it's own continuity? When a plot device doesn't make sense? Have you ever wondered what happens to heroes who get re-booted?


Allistar Childs does.


Allistar was a semi normal college student; that is until the “Continuum Accelerator” fell on his lap out of thin air. A device that opened portals to every dimension ever created in the comic universe.


Allistar now trapped between worlds, along with his best friend survive by looting, hustling, and conning through stories, and in the process have come across some pretty cool devices. With the powers of a dozen superheroes as well as their gadgets mild mannered Allistar Childs has become ALLSTAR!


Premise:


So the idea is that you can satire any comic you would like, from any era! With the idea that Allstar and his friend are a sort of “Gildenstern and Rosenkrantz” meets “Sliders” armed with a back pack full of gadgets, gizmos, artifacts, and tools of omnipotence they jump from world to world peddling their wares and surviving everything from a first date with the hottest girl in town to the impending destruction of the universe at the hands of a cosmic malevolence. Stories that can be written BY ANYONE! As long as Allstar and his pals are the focus. And I know that copywritten material is a touchy subject but do what I like to call, “Pull a Liefeild.” And just parody the world you want to be in!

Captain Onomatopoeia

Captain Onomatopoeia has no powers. All skills and to pretty much sum it down as a kid he grew up in the ghetto, where he always had to deal with the rich trying to take advantage of him and his mom. Finally fed up with it he decided to take up the alias Captain Onomatopoeia and fight against the rich and help the poor he later teamed up with the Juggla and Gemini to create the notorious group the SUPER EVIL HEROES that are heroes to the poor and villains to the selfish rich people that don't help anyone so he says.
